2024 Spring Recreation

Shelton Youth Soccer Organization is proud to open enrollment for our Spring 2024 Recreation season. The Inter CT FC Coaching team will provide centralized coaches at all the practices, to lead the soccer curriculum and demonstrate proper techniques. They will be dedicated to the Recreation program only and oversee the progress of 2-3 teams (~20 players) at a time. Volunteer Parent Coaches will still be needed to provide more of the hands on, emotional, and administrative support to their respective teams to lead the Saturday games.

At the youngest levels, our youth players will develop their social and motor skills while learning to become comfortable dribbling and kicking the ball. As the players mature to grade school levels, they will learn passing, positioning, and using more technique as opposed to raw athleticism. Players who excel here will be encouraged to join our Fall24-Spring25 Academy or Travel program to help further their curriculum as an introduction to more advanced levels of play.

Players within the intermediate to high school levels will continue to refine their soccer fundamentals as well as strategy such as attacking the open space, crossing techniques, dribbling around players, defensive tactics, etc.

The Spring 2024 Recreation season will tentatively start practices the week of Monday, April 15th. Players will practice with their team once per week, on the same night each week (Mon-Thu) throughout the season. Subject to the registration demand and night preferences (last question of registration) SYSO will make 2 or 3 nights available for practice for each league to promote the kids training together. Practices will usually be held at East Village Park, with the youngest players starting at 5:15pm, the middle-aged players at 6:30pm, and the oldest at 7:45pm (if needed).

The first games will be played Saturday, April 20th and all regularly scheduled games will be played on Saturdays. Games will be played at Elizabeth Shelton School, East Village Park, and the Nike Site Park. Capewell Park is expected to be closed for the season. The games are anticipated to start at approximately 8:00, 9:15, 10:30, or 11:45am. The times will vary each week, SYSO tries to balance the early/late start times amongst the teams.

4/6: Game Schedule Announcement

4/12: Evening Uniform Pickup Event* @ Capewell Park 5:00-8:00pm

4/13: Morning Uniform Pickup Event* @ Capewell Park 8:30-11:30am

4/15: First Week of Practices @ East Village Park

4/18: Evening Uniform Pickup Event @ Capewell Park 5:00-8:15pm

4/20: First Gameday (8:00am through 12:00pm start times, every Saturday morning)

6/15: Last Gameday (8 Saturday Games with 6/15 as the rain makeup, 9th date as needed)

League and team sizes will be created based on enrollment, SYSO anticipates having leagues based on these groups:

League 1: Under 5 year olds

League 2: Under 6 year olds

League 3: Under 8 year olds

League 4: Under 10 year olds

League 5: 11 year olds+, co-ed
